Chi Sau is the essence of Wing Chun, hand on handing training working sense of touch, reaction and reflexes. Also begin to understand the world of chi and its development through the variety of Chi Sau.
Simulated blocks and attacks work the variety of gates in Wing Chun, training their applications through the movementof your opponent. This leads onto counters and combinations, which works a heightened auto-pilot response. Initiated from lap-sau kuen fa (another chi sau) the student must block and strike simultaneously, with the emphasis on reaction. Each movement should be as if you’ve touched something hot, working the body’s natural reflexes and not thinking about the next move.
To improve on this, combinations of strikes are added, however these strikes are not released, but controlled: keeping the body free from tension.
The Mook Yang Jong ‘Wooden Man/Dummy’ open hand form is introduced earlier than in previous generations to develop better angles of attack early on in students Wing Chun development. This is the fourth open hand form in the system and incorporates all 3 forms (Sil Lim Tao, Chum Kil and Bil Jee). The use of refined angles, lines and precise strikes are played on the dummy as if it were a real adversary. This is the most advanced and effective form in Wing Chun, which is used to improve fighting concepts through speed, reaction and footwork.
