Circuit training and commando style fitness

SAS Boxercise class can incorporate many components. Classes taught by Instructor Peter Stockley who is a qualified fitness and boxing coach will put you through your paces.

One of the favourite class formats is a circuit style class including boxing style stations, such as the Focus Pads, Punch Bag, Skipping Ropes, Medicine Ball and other more general exercises found in a good circuit class.

Focus Pads are the closest you’ll ever get to hitting your partner for real, often used by personal trainers as the intensity of the workout can be varied from beginner to advanced.

Working the punchbag, a major component of any boxer’s regimen, combines cardio work, strength training, timing, balance and boxing skills into one fitness activity. Hitting the bag is a fast high rep workout that builds muscular endurance as well as strength. Hitting a heavy bag is similar to weight training in principle, because it offers resistance.

Another favourite is the SAS Boxercise Aerobics format. This uses power moves to punch up your heart rate. Every hook and jab puts your rectus abdominis, obliques and lower back to work. Simply punching works the biceps, triceps and deltoids to give that upper body a toned look.

Boxercise is the latest and best exercise to empower women and get men back into the studio.

The workout uses the entire body. Cardiovascular you burn more calories in an hour than using a stair climber. Boxercise combines use of both aerobic and anaerobic energy systems with the systematic recruitment of both fast and slow twitch muscle fibres in a manner that not only ensures a diverse workout, but also enhances sports specific senses, including hand-eye co-ordination, balance and timing. SAS Boxercise classes are always fun, energetic and addictive. Correct technique takes practice and good instruction.

SAS  technical Sparring class is another new exciting concept for adults and juniors.  We recognise that many students wish to spar in a more controlled environment focusing on technique. This sparring class is known as the technical sparring class. Power is controlled to around 50%, and students are expected to utilise all their techniques. Making mistakes is not punished, and everyone is free to learn in an environment where all participants feel happy and safe.

New SAS Grading Syllabus

New SAS Grading Syllabus

Grading in the martial arts is a very important factor. Without the grading, the student will never challenge their mental and physical skills in order to excel.

SAS Grading system although is 26 years old has been painstakingly and carefully prepared so the student can experience realism, confidence, discipline and art form, so they attain a new level of achievement. The time has come for change.

We are undertaking an exciting and new grading system for Adults, Juniors, and children. First changes are adults beginner levels 1 & 2 and are now complete and  started teaching the new street self defence for adults and early indications and feedback is “Challenging and refreshing”.

1st, 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th rank diploma syllabus will be completed by June 2012

There will be changes with the senior gradings of (Black belt and higher equivalent grading examinations) and a new grading added in between current grading levels for blindfold and reaction training and also SAS street tactic drills)

SAS Martial Arts Academy has been in business since 1986 Master Andrew Sofos commented that the current grading system although traditional and effective, needs changing for today’s modern student and to make the concept current to today’s needs.

SAS Wing Chun is a science not a style so Master Andrew believes that the science needs to improve for every new generation of student. It is an exciting and rewarding time, the classes have a real sense of positive energy since the announcement and many are waiting in anticipation of the new era of SAS.

Wing Chun forms and their purpose

Wing Chun forms and their purpose

Name = Sil lim tao  = little idea form

Energy = Float and Throw

Moves  = 36

Sections = 3

Information = Energy is like a draft, and a breeze

==================================

Name = Chum Kil  = Seeking the bridge

Energy = thrust and Throw

Moves  = 36

Sections = 4

Information= Energy is like Gust or a blow

================================

Name = Bil Jee  = Thrusting Fingers

Energy = Thrust, lung, and stab

Moves  = 36

Sections = 5

Information= Energy is like Storm or thunder & lighting

=======================================

All the forms once learnt and practiced by technique than has to be studied by chi and feeling. One has to feel the chi generated from the physical movement of body. One must be aware of the energy fields for each form so eventually your chi or electromagnetic force or field plays your form. One has no preconception of thought to do a physical command but merely follow through to the next move on an “auto pilot sense” as your chi will guide you to the next part of each form.

One does not need to be aware of application, strike or block as eventually you surpass this stage of learning but are now aware of your inner energy and are moving body and limb through chi and magnetism of energy. The chi is commanded by the mind, but only as a “tap” (source) what you do with it is your business afterwards (no-mind) your mind is aware of your actions but not dictating the action only supplying the chi as a tap does to water.

You can only attain this if you are executing the form with the correct energy as stated for each form. Once you have all three forms and you are shown the sil lum jee what energy do you use?

All three energies for each section (form) of the sil lun jee. But that does not mean you cannot play a particular form with a different energy, after many years of training in Wing Chun you can dictate different energies for different forms. This is a very difficult exercise to do, as you will still have to maintain full control but with a different chi flow (i.e. driving a more powerful car in a smaller body shell or modifying the car for great speed)

This is how sil lim tao can defeat the Bil jee, the form is played as you know it but the chi or energy flow is not “throw or float”, – may be, thrust or lung but keeping stillness in the technique.

One needs to think about this theory very seriously as it will change your perception of wing chun training and the results of your labour will be very rewarding.

Each form and its theory, with the “flight of movement” in control will change the effect of the physical form. This is because the quality and purity of the chi is what will dictate the move, so the form will look and feel different the 36 moves are the same but your direction and movement you take will be different, because the chi is moving the limb with no mental perception. The fingers may seem puffed, red, sweating or just cold, these are all manifestations of chi.
