I have been studying martial arts since the age of eight when I started Tae Kwon Do. I reached Second Dan Black Belt level and also competed at a high level in full contact competitions both at National and International level.

I stopped Tae Kwon Do in 1993 after twelve years because of the pressures of academic work. In 1998 I moved down to London and decided to once again take up martial arts. I wanted to do a system that was more geared towards street fighting and combat rather than competition. I started studying Wing Chun at the SAS Martial Art Academy in September of that year. I chose Wing Chun because of the efficiency and simplicity of the system and the variety of techniques, locking, trapping, sweeps as well as strikes and kicks were all shown in the beginners class.

Also the no nonsense ‘ruthless’ approach to high tension situations appealed to me. In the early days of my training I was very impressed with the displays of amazing hand speed and devastating power shown in free fighting by Master Andrew Sofos and his Senior Instructors, which motivated me to practice diligently.

Four years later and I was a Senior Instructor myself. I have performed in charity shows and demonstrations including one made in the Caribbean for a TV series trailer.

Wing Chun training not only strengthens the body physically but also sharpens the mind, increase and heightens the senses. Because Wing Chun is a close quarters system there is no time to think, one learns to react on an auto-pilot. Techniques are executed with speed, precision and accuracy but actions are not dictated by the mind. This is what Wing Chun is so famous for.
