Master Andrew Sofos & Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu, Tai Chi & Chi Kung (Qi Gong).

SAS Martial Arts Academy was established in 1986 by master Andrew Sofos who has been training in the martial arts since 1973, and started wing chun in 1978. Master Andrew has an excellent reputation and his teaching skills are legendary, mainly teaching at our Gospel Oak HQ. We have branches in Southgate (North London), Leyton (East London), University College London and Imperial College Kensington (Central London).  SAS Martial Arts Academy use the ethos of the martial arts to install discipline, respect, honour and integrity to many young people, and have contracts with several London Boroughs teaching in main stream schools and during school holidays. It is safe to say that you are in safe hands and with a winning team.

On April 26th 2011 Master Andrew Sofos was awarded the freedom of the City of London for his dedicated community and charitable work that spans 27 years. With a team of professional and dedicated instructors, you are guaranteed to succeed whatever your reasons for taking up martial arts.

Wing Chun is a unique and effective martial art that focuses on attacking and defending simultaneously. It places an emphasis on speed and relaxation to allow the student to throw multiple attacks and execute techniques with minimal effort and strain. We initially concentrate on self defence and move onto more advanced concepts and techniques. The training environment is friendly, welcoming and professional.

What are the benefits?

Improve physical ability and health. Many members work in offices or other sedentary occupations for most of the day. Work involving little physical activity leaves people out of touch with their bodies, and a resolution to exercise regularly on your own often fades after a few weeks. Organised physical activity in a group provides enough structure to sustain a steady programme of physical activity and development.

Become more confident, assertive, and mentally strong. Learning a martial art is as much about tuning your mind as it is about learning physical skills.

Feel safe on streets and be unafraid, even while walking alone at night. SAS Academy offers regular seminars about self-defence and personal safety. No one in SAS Academy is interested in participating in a pub brawl; rather, it is about getting home safely.

Recover from and overcome the psychological difficulties that stem from suffering trauma or being the victim of violence. Martial arts are an excellent way to come to terms with violence, and SAS Academy is a safe place to learn not only to cope but to transform yourself.

Enlighten themselves philosophically and spiritually. The martial arts taught at SAS Academy are rooted in Taoist and Buddhist thought, which we experience in action in our training.

We teach classes in Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu and Tai Chi & Chi Kung (Qi Gong).

Which of the martial arts taught at the SAS Academy is right for me?

Only you can discover the answer to that question. Sample each to find out which you prefer, or pursue both.

Members of SAS Academy can train in Wing Chun, Tai Chi, or both. You can’t really know what a martial art is like without trying it. Simply looking on often gives an erroneous impression, in part because much of what happens is within the person.

You cannot get an accurate perception without experiencing it yourself.

SAS Academy offers a two-session trial so that you can discover for yourself.
